Tanksloshing

Tanksloshing 1
The liquid movement in large truck tanks can lead to high stresses on the tank structure.

The baffles in particular, which are designed to dampen the wave motion, must be dimensioned accordingly.
be dimensioned accordingly. By means of a CFD simulation, the unsteady fluid movement inside the tank can be calculated.

Tanksloshing 2
By means of a CFD simulation, the unsteady fluid motion inside the tank can be calculated. This is a two-phase problem in which, in addition to the conventional flow variables such as pressure and velocity, the interface between the fluid and the enclosed air is also calculated.
Tanksloshing 3
The use of this simulation technology provides insights into the complex fluid motion that would require a great deal of effort to generate experimentally.

The figures show a longitudinal section through a truck tank during a sharp braking maneuver. The interface between fluid and air is shown in blue.

The mechanical loads (pressures) for tank dimensioning are derived from these results.
