In order to obtain approval for a locomotive drive, the complete drive train consisting of motor, gearbox and hollow shaft was calculated and evaluated with regard to fatigue strength.
– Geometric modifications to the castings to avoid stress concentrations.
– Finite element analysis (Nastran and LIMIT®) was used to ensure durability over the planned 30-year service life.
The development project was carried out by Bombardier Transportation in cooperation with CAE Simulation & Solutions and the end customer. The pictures show the FE model as well as the occurring displacements and stresses.
