Designing sports equipment is an exciting task, because the market is often willing to pay for highly optimized equipment made from expensive materials. The primary challenge is to design stiff and strong structures while keeping the weight low. We support major sports equipment producers with our engineering services, for example simulations pertaining to the development of skis or the simulation of a tennis stroke.
Besides these activities, we continuously develop our in-house project, a muscle-powered hydrofoil. This project combines the disciplines of light-weight design, CAD, computational solid mechanics, computational fluid mechanics and measurement technology. The design of the hydrofoil and the propeller satisfies the need for a high degree of (hydro-) mechanical efficiency. The practical experiences gained from comparing the simulation results to test runs are readily transferred to our industrial projects.
