The project content was the design-accompanying calculation and verification calculation of the entire 5-section streetcar set in the Metrolinx project. The programs MSC Nastran and our in-house developed software LIMIT® were used.
In the course of the project, a combined steel-aluminum design of the car bodies was calculated and evaluated in regard to static strength and service life (fatigue strength). In particular, the service life specifications pose a special challenge due to the high number of load cases. 160- 230 load case combinations are common for such projects
The fatigue results were evaluated using the LIMIT® software program. In close cooperation with the customer, various changes were made to the wall thicknesses, the fasteners (welding and riveting), and also to the adhesive bondings used in the concept.
