Lower jaw reconstruction
The content of this project was the modeling and calculation of lower jaw fractures in the area of the ‘Collum Mandibulae’ to determine the necessary stiffness and strength of fixation plates for fracture fixation.
Four different fixations with varying fracture surfaces and one, respectively two fixation plates were studied.
The modeling was carried out using a combination of 3D elements (for the lower jaw) and beam elements (for the fixation plate).
The images display the used 3D FE model of the bone-implant-system, a reconstruction of individual CT-cross sections and two results for different fracture surfaces and their respective fixation methods.
