Multiphase flows are characterized by the existence of more than one phase (solid, liquid or gaseous). Investigating fuel-sloshing in tanks or wave paterns around boat hulls leads to multiphase problems (fuel and water, respectively, as well as air). In addition to the usual transport equations for flow problems, the free surface (interphase surface) must be tracked, using the Volume of Fluid algorithm.
