Cable car bridge

A steel bridge, which is used by a cable car (a “streetcar” pulled by a steel cable), was used for the calculation.

The steel structure with a span of almost 60 m leads in a curve over an eight-lane road. In this project, the fatigue strength of the welded structure and the load-bearing capacity of the bridge bearings were investigated.

By means of linear-elastic, static FEM calculation, the relevant maximum stresses and the stress amplitudes were determined to allow a standard-compliant evaluation of the structure according to Eurocode 3.

In the course of two to three iteration steps, which included in particular stiffening ribs in the area of the bridge bearings, a positive assessment was achieved. The steel structure was put into operation in 2010.
