Turbine blades
The aim of the project was to investigate the fluid-structure interaction on the blades of a Francis turbine.
On the one hand, the added mass concept was investigated and, on the other hand, the damping by the fluid as a function of the flow rate.
Significant shifts in the natural frequencies of the blades could be substantiated through the simulation. Furthermore, it was possible to quantitatively estimate the damping factor of the fluid.
The picture on the left shows the mesh of the blades (one highlighted in red) and the spiral wake in which the periodic vortex bands are transported away.
