Simulation of hot-gas generator

Heißgaserzeuger
The aim of this project was to find out what type of thermal insulation is required on the outer surface of a hot gas generator to keep the surface temperature below a specified level.

Taking advantage of rotational symmetry about the horizontal longitudinal axis, a cross-sectional model was created. Key aspects of the simulation were the energy release in the flame and the heat transport through convection and radiation.

Using the results of our study, the required thickness for thermal insulation could be determined quickly and efficiently.

The images in the reference sheet display the density distribution of the gas as well as the temperature distribution in the hot-gas generator.
Both images each show a half-section through the rotationally symmetrical plant.
