ICN high-speed train

The project objective concerned design-accompanying calculations as well as the verification calculation of the Aluminium car bodies for the high-speed tilting train ICN on behalf of the Swiss Federal Railways SBB.

The car bodies were designed using large aluminum profiles, which serve as the basis for the welded structure. The entire train consists of five different car bodies. The front of the railcar has a co-supporting GRP head, which is bonded to the aluminum structure.

FE shell/beam modeling was carried out to determine the necessary stiffnesses and strengths of the five different car bodies. The stresses under service load, the maximum loads at buffer pressure and the natural frequencies of the car body were determined.
