In biomechanics CAE Simulation & Solutions focuses on the design of implants and the mechanics of bones. The strain distribution in the bone(s) can be determined by means of Finite Element Method. Furthermore, the design of the implant can be optimised accordingly.

One of the basic challange of the simulation is the proper modeling of the geometry and the strucutre of the bone. Normally 3D scans of a computer tomographs act as initial basis providing shape and density distribution of the bony structure. Modern micro CT-scans even allow the characterisation of the anisotropic material behaviour of cancellous bone.
